Demosthenes Stamatis is a Professor at the Department of Informatics and Electronic Engineering, of the International Hellenic University.

He holds a B.Sc. degree in Mathematics from the University of Ioannina (1981) and a Ph.D. in Computer Science-Artificial Intelligence from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1987).

His research interests include Artificial Intelligence techniques, Logic Programming, the use of Information and Communication Technologies in Education and e-learning

He teaches courses on Programming Methodologies, Data Structures, Artificial Intelligence and Distance Learning.

As National Coordinator of the Directives 2005/36/EC and 2013/55/EU, he participated in the Group of Coordinators for the Recognition of Professional Qualifications, which functions in the context of DG Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW). He was also member of the European Qualifications Framework Advisory Group, which functions in the context of DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion (DG EMPL).

He acted as President of the Council of Higher Technological Education (SATE) and member of the Central Board of the National Organisation for the Certification of Qualifications & Vocational Guidance (EOPPEP).
